21 things in 21 days

This is another kinda suggestive/tips post. Since we’re going to be in lockdown for another 21 days, here are 21 things that would be fun to do while you’re stuck in your house. But believe me, there’s no place like home, so enjoy every minute of the next 21 days!

Day 1. Watch Kota factory
Well, speaking of 21 days, the first thing I remembered was Jeetu Bhaiya. Kota factory is a five-episode series on Youtube, which follows the journey of IIT aspirants who live in Kota. It’s completely free and has English subtitles. Trust me, it’s worth a watch!

     Day 2.  Clean your place
Grab that cloth and clean your workspace. But, this is not advisable if you’re sensitive to allergic cough.  As you clean your space, you’ll feel the change taking place. We often dread to work from home because home is kind of an environment we associate with rest and comfort. Change it, maybe you need a different screen to light your room, or a colourful vase to decorate your living space? Spice up, people!

Day 3. Catch up
Been a pro in board games? Now’s the time to brush up those skills!

Day 4. Start learning a new skill
It takes 21 days for a person to acquire a new skill. Add something that makes your CV look wild!

Day 5. Track your habits
Putting the fun part apart, you can bring some healthy habits into practice, that found a way out of your life a while ago. Maybe, pick up that music practice that you left behind a long time ago.

Day 7.  Read
Books are gateways to thrilling getaways. You find some rectangular, dusty old thing on your shelf that you bought a long time back, hoping that it’ll make a change?  Now’s the time to test it!

Day 8. Binge-watch

Day 9.  Do a digital clean up
( Well, this is a lot tougher than I thought. But I’m trying my best. ) Ever wondered why your pc is running out of space? Why your files are magically disappearing and you're re-downloading them again? These are signs that your pc is highly disorganised. (In Marie kondo’s words, they won’t spark joy. ) Arrange your files in specific folders and organize your folders in a way you’ll feel comfortable finding them. This will help you clean your pc, as
A)  you’ll be deleting all duplicates
B)   you exactly know where your stuff is
Day 10.  You can actually start equipping yourself with your academic needs.
Day 11. Rest. You’ve spent ten days doing whatnot. You deserve a pampering day.
Day 12. Recover from pampering. This day is when you’ll redo whatever you did till day 10 but at a slower pace. The aim here is to not burn out so that you have the same enthusiasm till the last day.
Day 13.  Start your workout routine (inside your HOME)
Day 14. It’d be fun to watch your parents’ favourite movies. Again, self-experienced, so trust me, you’ll have a good time.
Day 15. If you haven’t already, try helping around the house. It’d be fun if you work together, and it helps you pass time.
Day 16. If you’re someone like me and took social distancing a little too seriously, today’s the day to call your friends and talk to them. (From Your Home)
Day 17. Rest day; or do flipping through the old memory lane
Day 18. Reflect on how you’ve spent the past 17 days, and realize how much you’ve changed since. If you feel positive, plan on sticking to the new habits that made you feel so.
Day 19. ( Well, you can actually read my previous posts, you know?) Just kidding. Catch up with the world, see what’s happening in your favorite area, and what your favourite personality has done these past 18 days!
Day 20. A little change, perhaps? Think of what you want to be in your near future, and plan how you’ll become it. (You can do this the day 1 if you are planning to be more visualistic.)
Day 21. Final day; we can do it, guys! Do whatever you feel like, in your HOME. Play some bang music, or dance till your feet hurts, or don’t wake up till it’s lunch. Just one more day. Relax, and before the day ends, be thankful for the person you’ve become!

That’s it. You can add your own stuff to the list. And let me know about them in the comments below, I’ll try them too! These 21 days let’s support each other and stay virtually united in this division. Do not leave your house, and don’t forget to wash your hands either. I’ll be blogging every single day, and you can follow me on social media for the latest updates. Let’s stay positive, in our home, and get this over with!

Saturdays with BK Uncle

Edit 1 : This is something I wrote a long time ago. repurposing for entertainment purposes. any harm thus caused isn't intentional; it happens to be a byproduct. Nobody knows how old BK Uncle is. Some say he's 60; some say he's awaiting his 80th birthday next month. He's been around for a long time. "Long time" might not seem so long, but for this young flat, it feels like an eternity. Old BK seemed nice; he'd converse with anyone he encountered. The four W's never mattered until they came out of him. People got used to his habits, like any obedient student would in an assembly. Well, most people. My interactions with BK Uncle have been quite amusing on my end and irritating on his. Incidentally, most of my interactions with BK Uncle happen on Saturdays. Probably because that's when I'm home, and I take a stroll in the lobby. Not so long ago, I'd play with my friends in the same lobby—it didn't matter what day of the week it was. Times...

Dude - Review

TL;DR - A Rare mainstream surprise with its heart in the right place. To begin with, I didn't expect any movie to make it to my blog this year, especially Dude. I was skeptical even while booking the tickets, and the pessimism only grew when a couple of close friends said they didn’t like it. For context: I didn’t enjoy Love Today , and Dragon was just okay. But if skepticism can ever lead to a pleasant surprise, Dude definitely proves it. I usually look for one out of two things from a film - a compelling narrative or solid entertainment. I don’t comment much on Tamil films because Tamil cinema, at least from what I have sampled, often misses both and at its worst, treats the female lead as an interchangeable prop, contributing no real agency to the story. It has been a long while since a mainstream entertainer offered a female character with intention, dimension, and presence. Dude does, and that alone deserves acknowledgement. PR struck like a typical Gen-Z actor in his first...

My experience with Murakami - 1

Before we begin, I am in no way qualified to review this book. However, I might not be able to move on with life if I don't give this the closure it deserves. I thought my first encounter with Murakami would be through Norwegian Wood. Like everybody else. It could've been through Kafka on the shore too, I saw that book on my dad's desk for almost three months. But no. Maybe this book landed at the right time. Or there is no right time. Sometimes you find the book, and in most cases, it is the book that finds you. With the wind-up bird chronicle, it definitely has to be the second one for me.  The Wind-up bird chronicle - Haruki Murakami I love it when narratives are non-linear. Life, as I've lived it in the last 20 years, or for most of the part that I can remember has not been linear. I've seen people around me leading a linear life.  School->College->job/grad school/get married -> become an adult -> have kids -> realise at 40 you are your parent a...
