I had read ' The Alchemist ' by Paulo Coelho recently. The book made me realise a few universal truths. Here's my review.
The story revolves around a young shepherd who is satisfied with his simple life. But when he started dreaming about a hidden treasure regularly, he decides to follow his dream. He travels from a Spanish province of Andalusia through the exotic markets of North Africa and then into the Egyptian desert, where he meets the alchemist. The alchemist could turn lead into pieces of real gold. When this shepherd was travelling through the desert, he was accompanied by a man who had come all this way to meet the alchemist. But, the alchemist is somewhat impressed by the shepherd's nature and guides him through the rest of his journey until he makes it to his destination. At last, when the boy had explored the Pyramids of Giza, he had realised where his treasure had been. It was in the church which once used to be his home.
This is more than just a story. You learn how hard you have to work when you start your journey towards your goal. It tells you that success doesn't appear on the doorstep. Instead, you have to knock each and every door on your way to find it. Ultimately, it leaves you at your doorstep, from where you would have started. But, if you don't start, you won't achieve.
And then, you come to the toughest part, when your road divides into two. Here in the story, the shepherd had met the love of his life and he had an option to go back to his normal life. But, when you are clear and having the real urge to reach your goal, you wouldn't be distracted.
This book had clearly indicated how a journey to success would be. Whatever the ups and downs may be, if you have the will to explore your path, you will ultimately reach your goal.
