I just found a bunch of articles I wrote for school last year and I'm planning to post them. here's the first one.
Pro's and Con's of Mass Media
Mass media plays a vital role in human life. Like food, water, shelter and air, mass media has become a basic necessity for today's generation. Everyone uses mass media in some way, be it radio, television, newspapers or the internet. We find ourselves addicted to either one of these everyday.
Mass Media has a lot of advantages. " A pen is mightier than a sword." Newspapers and magazines are essential for daily life. Apart from news and other information, newspapers and magazines can improve our linguistic skills and problem solving techniques. They come with different brain boosters like Sudoku, Crossword puzzles, riddles, G.K. questions etc. These games can improve our brain's problem solving capacity. Radio is yet another good medium for the masses. It offers music, live news, sports commendatory and many more programmes.
"Dream is the royal road to unconsciousness and television is simply an automated daydreaming." Although we can learn many useful things by watching programmes, continuous eye contact with the T.V. screen can cause damage to our eyes. Today, Internet has also become a necessity. We spend a lot more time in the Internet, which may sometimes lead us into unwanted problems.
Mass Media has both a good and a bad side. It is our choices that take us to what we want. So, I conclude by saying that mass media is a necessity to mingle with the world and enhance our knowledge. But at the same time, we should use it wisely and carefully.
