I completed reading 13 reasons why today. To be honest, I don't know why I like it. It's not like the other teen novels or young adult fantasy I read. This is entirely different.
High school student Hannah Baker commits suicide and records 13 reasons in audio tapes. The tapes had to be passed around the 13 people whom she had talked about in the tapes, and how they've been connected to her suicide. After hearing all the 13, the person should pass it on to the next one in the list. If he/she doesn't, then a second set would be released to the public by anonymous.
The story starts when Clay Jensen, the main character, gets the set and starts listening to it. Secrets unravel, even the darkest ones, and Clay feels that he could've stopped Hannah from committing suicide if he had got his chance right. After listening to each tape, Clay's perspective on every single people and normality changes.
What is the impact of this book on me? Well, after reading this, I think things are changing from the way I've seen them previously. I've sometimes thought that suicides are reason less, but now I know why that happens. And I've also learnt the pain of being teased and loneliness. I know that from now on, I would help anyone I know who thinks that they are lonely. or they need company.
The book is a must read for all kids who are entering high school. We should know about the impact of wrong decisions we make if we feel lonely.
