They say that the world is a small place to live in.
The thirst for instant news and global knowledge has always resided in the
history of human nature. And the millennial trend to keep up with anything that
happens anywhere is social media.
What exactly is social media? According to a dictionary, it is the interactive computer-based technology to share information on anything. It is the modern version of the 19th century telegraph. And social media is not one simple thing, it is classified into thirteen subcategories!
Now, when we analyze this topic, our brains have a
cluster of thoughts flashing at a single moment. But this question is not to be
answered with a one-word answer, since according to me, this is a rhetorical
question, rather than a simple statement. If I ask you, is 1 prime or
composite, what will be your answer?
Coming back on track, we’ll first focus on the positive effects of social media. As the name suggests, it helps people to connect globally. Social media has become a platform for young entrepreneurs today. Blogging, vlogging and posting ideas and thoughts are highly effective ways to share our stories around the world. For social media to travel around the world, it will hardly take 80 milliseconds rather than 80 days. (provided your internet connection is fast enough) It has quenched our thirst for instant news and has made the world small enough to fit right in our palms.
But when we flip the coin over, we can’t neglect the
negative effects of social media. These days offline has become the new luxury.
When people use acronyms while texting, this becomes a habit and they tend to
use this in their formal messages too. Nothing can be more embarrassing than to
find mistakes in an important document that’ll decide your fate. Social media
is also famous for stealing time from people. You go in to check for five
minutes, and when you do finally close the app, it would probably be fifty
minutes.
To find the exact answer to the question, however, is
an impossible task. What is 1? It is neither prime nor composite, we say. So,
according to me, the description of social media depends on every individual’s
perspective of using it. Social media can be more of a boon than a bane, or it
can also be more of a bane than a boon. So, the real answer lies not in the
internet, but in your own hands.
