Decoding the law of attraction

If you’ve been binge searching/ watching videos on the internet, and you haven’t stumbled across this at least once, you should probably brush up your binge skills. Because, for quite some time now, this has been the favourite ‘thing’ of vloggers these days. Now, before we even begin, I want to make a few things perfectly clear.
a)    This is not your guide to the law of attraction
b)    Opinions are of my own, from what I’ve seen/read.
c)    Any references to specific practices of others are purely coincidental.
To begin with, the law of attraction doesn’t follow the usual physics where (opposite) unlike charges attract each other. Simply put, it is all about like attracting like. People who follow it put it out like, you simply radiate positivity, and the universe will give it back to you. But something that sounds as simple as that, doesn’t have a lot to back up its postulates.

For instance, one of the tools that caught my eye, and the reason I’m even doing this, is this dream board visualisation. You create a collage of whatever you want to achieve, either physically or digitally. The aim is to put it where you’ll be seeing it frequently. And there’s more, journaling,(again, that caught my attention too, since it’s a habit) affirmative writing, and many other things. It doesn’t always have to be writing, it is a form in which you’re able to express yourself creatively.

Where did this even come from? Well, to begin with, this whole ‘law of attraction’ is based on the cue that our thoughts become actions. This concept slowly spread to the west from the east (we’re talking centuries ago, no fancy names!) and then, in the early 19th century, with the growth of the new thought philosophy, the concept found its way back into the limelight. In 1877, the term "Law of Attraction" appeared in print for the first time in a book written by the Russian occultist Helena Blavatsky.

Does this work? Well, according to me, it depends on perspective. There have been and are a lot of advocates in favour of this. And most youtube videos that you may have watched, would talk about how it changed the vlogger’s life.

The point here is, an one I strongly believe in is having a positive mindset will result in positive action. But it doesn’t have to be always favourable. If you’d admit anything honestly, at least to your own self, then the outcome shouldn’t bother you, as you would have seen it coming sooner or later. Having a negative mindset will obviously affect your actions because you will not be doing your job with full involvement.

So, do I believe this? I don’t think so. I’m not picking sides here, and I don’t completely agree with either. I do believe in having a healthy and optimistic mindset, but I do believe it’s going to take a lot more than sending signals to the universe to achieve my goals. To me, this is some kind of substance that lures you to do the original job, just in a different name. whether you eat lays, bingo or burritos, at the end of the day, it’s still an extra load of carbs, right?

I’ll specify the videos and articles I had come across. Now it’s your turn! Do you believe this? Comment down below your thoughts, experiences or theories. Maybe you believed this, and it worked for you. Maybe not. Is it worth a try?

Saturdays with BK Uncle

Edit 1 : This is something I wrote a long time ago. repurposing for entertainment purposes. any harm thus caused isn't intentional; it happens to be a byproduct. Nobody knows how old BK Uncle is. Some say he's 60; some say he's awaiting his 80th birthday next month. He's been around for a long time. "Long time" might not seem so long, but for this young flat, it feels like an eternity. Old BK seemed nice; he'd converse with anyone he encountered. The four W's never mattered until they came out of him. People got used to his habits, like any obedient student would in an assembly. Well, most people. My interactions with BK Uncle have been quite amusing on my end and irritating on his. Incidentally, most of my interactions with BK Uncle happen on Saturdays. Probably because that's when I'm home, and I take a stroll in the lobby. Not so long ago, I'd play with my friends in the same lobby—it didn't matter what day of the week it was. Times...

Afterthoughts - YellowFace

It took me a while to finish this book. Longer than I'd like to admit. Partly because engineering can get exhausting; sometimes all you want to do is sit still and stare into the void. And also because this book allows you to take breaks. Yellowface - by Rebecca F. Kuang Unlike many books that demand emotional stamina, this one pauses. Not every book offers to halt its flavour for your comfort. There are books that get you emotionally invested, and books that slowly get you in the zone. We've all binge-read books, if not series, simply because it lured you into an all-consuming world. Yellowface isn't a lot of things, and it certainly is not bait. It probably isn't something you would find everyone mentioning, and it doesn't leave you with characters to love. But it reminds you, in all gory detail, about the parts of you that'd have inevitably surfaced at times. Every century has had its patron cause. The 19th and early 20th centuries were about women's suf...
