Never Have I Ever – Review

No, this is not the classic game that has the ability to turn your high school experience into hell, rather another Netflix series that revolves around the musings of an Indian kid in an American high school. Yes, you read that right. And like the nature of the game, the protagonist Devi’s life, in the series, goes through a lot of mess.

Devi Vishwakumar had just suffered terrible trauma in her freshman year. She got over it, or had she? She wanted to make the most of her sophomore year, so she and her best friends decide to socialize better. And the rest of the series goes about how messed up Devi’s life gets, and Devi figuring out her differences with her family and friends. And if I continue here, this post gets tagged as a spoiler.

So, how did this top Netflix’s recommendation list in more than 10 countries? Well, for starters, this series is a lot more different than how Indians are portrayed in American television. It has broken a lot of stereotypes about Indian girls, and for the first time, Indian culture has been portrayed with the vibrancy it represents, and there’s no racial prejudice. Obviously, there are some ‘too reel’ scenes that may make you question this review, but the events that take place do need some sort of side prompts so that you don’t feel too caught up on the main storyline.

The second reason being this story actually focuses on the actual trauma that a high school teen may possibly face. It has some global connection throughout the series. And all the school sequences can be globally relatable. If you’re not getting it, try comparing this with high school musical and thirteen reasons why. High school musical, though has musical in the name, portrayed high school only as a form of art school. The movies were great, I personally enjoyed them too. But never have I ever can give you more relatable incidents than the other two. ‘13 reasons why’ was good too, but let’s be honest; it’s not like every other day you find a box of tapes delivered at your doorstep, right?

The leads and the supporting cast have done an extremely amazing job. Especially the enthralling conversations of Devi and Ben are really hard to forget. And I bet that Devi’s savage moments will make you complete watching the series, even though you don’t admit it.

Season 1 premiered on 27th April, and if you’re like me,( it’ll take only three to four days to complete watching all the ten episodes.) or if you’re the kind of person who binge-watches an entire season a single day, you’re in for a hilariously honest treat. So what are you waiting for, give it a watch and let me know in the comments about your views. And for the fans who're reading this, it's time to vote.

Team Ben or Team Paxton? 😂

Saturdays with BK Uncle

Edit 1 : This is something I wrote a long time ago. repurposing for entertainment purposes. any harm thus caused isn't intentional; it happens to be a byproduct. Nobody knows how old BK Uncle is. Some say he's 60; some say he's awaiting his 80th birthday next month. He's been around for a long time. "Long time" might not seem so long, but for this young flat, it feels like an eternity. Old BK seemed nice; he'd converse with anyone he encountered. The four W's never mattered until they came out of him. People got used to his habits, like any obedient student would in an assembly. Well, most people. My interactions with BK Uncle have been quite amusing on my end and irritating on his. Incidentally, most of my interactions with BK Uncle happen on Saturdays. Probably because that's when I'm home, and I take a stroll in the lobby. Not so long ago, I'd play with my friends in the same lobby—it didn't matter what day of the week it was. Times...

Afterthoughts - YellowFace

It took me a while to finish this book. Longer than I'd like to admit. Partly because engineering can get exhausting; sometimes all you want to do is sit still and stare into the void. And also because this book allows you to take breaks. Yellowface - by Rebecca F. Kuang Unlike many books that demand emotional stamina, this one pauses. Not every book offers to halt its flavour for your comfort. There are books that get you emotionally invested, and books that slowly get you in the zone. We've all binge-read books, if not series, simply because it lured you into an all-consuming world. Yellowface isn't a lot of things, and it certainly is not bait. It probably isn't something you would find everyone mentioning, and it doesn't leave you with characters to love. But it reminds you, in all gory detail, about the parts of you that'd have inevitably surfaced at times. Every century has had its patron cause. The 19th and early 20th centuries were about women's suf...
